Projects

Coeur Gold – Waihi, NZ

Geotechnics Sales supplied instrumentation and laboratory equipment for this project. Instrumentation included Inclinometers, Pneumatic Piezometers and Polchor cable systems.

Waihi Gold – Waihi, NZ

For this project we were responsible for the supply of a range of instruments and also equipment for a site laboratory for testing soils. This project involved Inclinometers, Pneumatic Piezometers and Vibrating Wire (VW) Piezometers.

Manapouri 2nd Tailrace Tunnel

Quite possibly one of the most significant civil engineering projects in NZ's history. Costing $200M (NZD) and involving 10 km of tunnelling using a TBM. Our involvement in this job was to supply instrumentation and also equipment for a comprehensive site lab (eg soils, aggregates and concrete plus other materials). We supplied Extensometers, Inclinometers, Vibrating Wire Piezometers and also datalogging equipment.

Northland Regional Corrections Facility (Ngawha Prison)

This project involves the consolidation of an area of peat by using a preload to achieve the expected settlement of 1.5m. Other geological constraints included acidic groundwater and also geothermal constraints. Geotechnics supplied instrumentation including Profilometers, Inclinometers with Telescoping Sections, VW Piezometers and Borehole Extensometers. Also implemented in the project was a new technique for the installation of VW Piezometers. In this case the transducers have been installed with grout only and not the traditional sand pocket. Geotechnics also supplied field test equipment including NDM's.

Mercer to Longswamp four laning

This roading project has huge significance for the motoring public in NZ. Eventually the four-lane expressway will run from Auckland to Cambridge (just south of Hamilton ). This will make the Auckland – Waikato commute very short and safe. Geotechnics were commissioned to provide instrumentation and monitoring services to the project. All three initial stages required instrumentation in the forms of Inclinometers, Profilometers, VW Piezometers and Pneumatic Piezometers.

The project encountered numerous constraints including up to 30m of peaty soils to be consolidated using a pre-load, the installation of thousands of wick drains and numerous deep-seated landslides.
